Wilkes Men's Wrestling Finishes Day One of Pete Willson Invitational
 
WHEATON, IL – The Wilkes University men's wrestling team finished competition on day one of the 2026 Pete Willson Invitational on Friday at King Arena.
 
The Colonels finished in 18th overall following day one competition with two wrestlers remaining alive in the consolation bracket.

At 141-pounds, Ashton Romberger (Chambersburg, PA/Chambersburg) finished 2-1 on the day including an 8-5 decision over Dylan Heater of Cornell College in his opening match. After falling by major decision to No. 8 Sean Conway of the University of Chicago, Romberger battled back with a fall over Adam Sharpley of John Carroll University in 4:19 to keep his hopes alive for third place.
 
At 157-pounds, No. 15 Jaryn Hartranft (Catasauqua, PA/Catasauqua) continued his climb to 100 career wins going 3-1 on the day. Hartranft began the tournament with a 12-9 decision over Concordia College's Christopher Acuna before another decision victory (11-6) over Arcadia's Wyatt Leduc to reach the quarterfinals. There the senior fell in a hard-fought 4-2 decision to Luke Swan of Wisconsin-Whitewater before wrestling back with a fall over Briar Ivey of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in 2:31 to continue his run for a third place finish. Hartranft now stands with 93 career wins, just seven shy of becoming the newest member of the Colonels 100-win club.
 
Ryan Santiago (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) (149), Omari Watson (Clayton, NJ/Clayton) (174), Patrick Gordon III (South Riding, VA/Freedom) (184) and Trevor Gitski (Alburtis, PA/Emmaus) (285) all finished with two wins before finishing their tournament runs in the consolation rounds.
 
Day two action begins tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. at King Arena.
