Wilkes Field Hockey's Big Second Half Pushes Colonels Over Juniata 5-0
HUNTINGDON, PA – The Wilkes University field hockey team broke open a 1-0 game scoring four more goals over the second 30 minutes of play as the Colonels recorded a 5-0 Landmark Conference shutout at Juniata College Saturday afternoon at Knox Stadium.
Wilkes extended its win streak to four games moving to 6-5 overall and remain unbeaten in Landmark play at 2-0. Juniata fell to 5-6 overall and 1-1 in league games following the home defeat.
Paige Greco (Sugarloaf, PA/Hazelton Area) got the scoring going for Wilkes with an unassisted goal at the 21:07 mark in the second quarter.
From there Wilkes exploded for four goals in the second half thanks to two strikes from
Emma Lautenbacher (Bangor, PA/Bangor) at 38:08 and 39:17 in the third frame.
Taylor Bower (Bloomsburg, PA/Bloomsburg) assisted on both tallies.
Anyiah Torres (Cape May, NJ/Middle Township) added the Colonels fourth goal at 51:39 thanks to a helper from
Elizabeth Hodder (Elysburg, PA/Southern Columbia) and
Sage Morgan (Dallas, PA/Lake Lehman) concluded the scoring with an unassisted goal with five seconds remaining in the contest.
Wilkes outshot Juniata 12-4 in the game including nine coming on goal. The Colonels also held an 8-4 advantage in penalty corners.
Chloe Gilroy (Manchester, NH/Pace University) recorded her second shutout in the last three games finishing with four saves in the victory.
Wilkes is back in action Tuesday with a road Landmark matchup at Susquehanna University at 7:00 p.m.
