Wilkes Field Hockey Stays Unbeaten in Landmark Play After 2-0 Shutout at Susquehanna
SELINSGROVE, PA – Visiting Wilkes University scored one goal in the first quarter and added an insurance tally late in the fourth frame on way to a 2-0 Landmark Conference victory at Susquehanna University Tuesday night.
Wilkes moved to 7-5 overall and 3-0 in league games pushing its win streak to five games dating back to September 22. Susquehanna dropped to 3-10 overall and 1-2 in conference contests.
Sage Morgan (Dallas, PA/Lake Lehman) scored the eventually game-winner 11:39 into the first quarter when she took a pass from
Maddie Karp (Pittston, PA/Pittston Area) and found the back of the cage to give the Colonels a 1-0 lead.
The Colonels added an insurance goal with just 2:38 remaining in the game when
Taylor Bower (Bloomsburg, PA/Bloomsburg) took a feed from Karp and deposited a shot into the back of the net.
Wilkes continued its fine defensive play allowing just seven Susquehanna shots with only two coming on goal.
Chloe Gilroy (Manchester, NH/Pace University) recorded her second conference shutout of the season making two saves to preserve the road win.
Wilkes continues its conference road stretch on Saturday with a trip to another unbeaten team in the conference Catholic University at 5:00 p.m.
