Wilkes Women's Soccer Defeats Juniata in a Thrilling 3-0 Victory

EDWARDSVILLE, Pa. – The Wilkes women's soccer team defeated Juniata College Eagles in a convincing 3-0 victory on Saturday afternoon at Bruggeworth field.

The Colonels improve to a 8-3 record overall and 2-0 in conference, while the Eagles drop 4-4 overall and 2-0 in conference.

In the first half, the Colonels' controlled most of the possession and attacking rhythm. The breakthrough came late when a loose ball ricocheted into the feet of Ava Young (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown West), who buried her second goal of the season to give the Colonels a 1-0 lead.

Wilkes opened the second half with their eyes set on a Landmark win as Juniata conceded a free kick in a dangerous position. Elena Krajain (Lumberton, NJ/Rancocas Valley Regional) stepped up to the challenge with a lofted ball into the penalty box, and Jess Shea (Somerset, NJ/Franklin) skimmed the ball into the net to double Wilkes' advantage.

Wilkes kept their momentum going three minutes after their second goal as Erin Edwards (East Greenville, PA/Upper Perkiomen) fired a cross into the penalty box, finding Mia Black (Swarthmore, PA/Delaware Valley Friends School) who fired the ball into the back of the net. Wilkes continued to generate attacking opportunities to extend the 3-0 lead. Grace Alderson (Byram, NJ/Lenape Valley Regional) attempted to get on the board in the 88th minute as she maneuvered around multiple defenders for a 1v1 opportunity with the goalkeeper that unfortunately did not get converted.

The Colonels out-shot the Eagles 14-3 in the afternoon, with Hannah Dennison (Limerick, PA/Spring-Ford) leading the team in shots with three, followed by Shea and Edwards with two apiece. Delaney Yaracs (Butler, PA/Butler) made one save on the night, completing Wilkes' fourth straight shutout victory in a row this season.

The Colonels host their next game on Wednesday, October 7 against Susquehanna University for a 7 p.m. kick off.
