BALTIMORE, Md. - The Wilkes University men's swimming and diving team remains in fifth place after the second day of the Landmark Conference Swimming and Diving Championships Friday afternoon at the Mangione Aquatic Center.
Day Two Final Results
The top five teams remain unchanged with Catholic in first place (374.50), Scranton in second (282), Drew in third (255), Susquehanna in fourth (120.50), and Wilkes in fifth (88).
After contributing to Wilkes' record-breaking 800 freestyle relay team yesterday, Max Johnson (Clarksburg, MD/Clarksburg) rewrote the record books again in the 500 freestyle prelims. The first-year finished in 12th place with a time of 4:57.35, breaking his own school record and qualifying for the finals.
In the finals, Johnson broke his record again with a 4:54.92, and earned an 11th place finish.
Johnson was the only Colonel to compete in the finals, but that didn't stop others from putting up impressive times of their own. Leo Miller (Oak Forest, IL/Oak Forest), Josh Leonard (Athens, PA/Athens Area), and Jack DeLuca (Easton, PA/Moravian Academy) all participated in the 500 freestyle alongside Johnson.
Miller came in 20th with a 5:09.60, Leonard came in 27th with a 5:21.87, and DeLuca was right behind him in 28th with a 5:22.87.
In the 200 IM prelims, Jacob Piotrowski (Old Bridge, NJ/Old Bridge) just missed the cut for the finals. The sophomore came in 18th place with a 2.05.17, just 0.93 seconds away from 16th place. In the same event, Caleb Keener (Shrewsbury, PA/Susquehannock) finished 22nd with a 2:10.45, Brady Rushton (Nanticoke, PA/Greater Nanticoke Area) finished 27th with a 2:16.38, and Joshua Robinson (Richmond, VA/St. Christopher's) finished 29th with a 2:26.67.
Owen Lewis (Ellicott City, MD/Howard) posted a time of 22.30 in the 50 freestyle prelims, but finished just outside the top 16 in 19th place. Behind him in the same event were Ashton Dainty (Scranton, PA/Scranton) in 29th, Luke Donato (Westerly, RI/Westerly) in 30th, and DJ Hammond (Stone Mountain, GA/Stephenson) in 36th.
The final event of the day was the 400 medley relay, and the Colonels earned a sixth place finish with a 3:39.87 thanks to the team of Lewis, Piotrowski, Maximilian Wilson (Manassas, VA/Seton), and Tobias Misinay (Somerset, KY/Pulaski County).
