Women's Ice Hockey Dominates in Senior Day Win Over King's

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Wilkes University women's ice hockey team continued their homestand on Friday night, defeating cross-town rivals King's College on Senior Day from the Toyota Sportsplex. Following a dominant offensive effort, the Colonels took an 8-1 victory over the Monarchs.

Wilkes improved to 20-1-1 (18-1-1 MAC) following the victory, while King's fell to 1-22-0 (1-18-0 MAC).

The Colonels drew first blood at 5:59 into the first period with Megan Bell (Waterloo, ON/St. David Catholic) scoring on a wrist shot, beating King's netminder Will McPherson on the blocker side for 1-0.

Nina Hudakova (Košice, Slovakia/Hoosac Prep School) found twine at 16:40, after netting a rebound to give the Colonels a 2-0 lead going into the first intermission.

After roughly 10 minutes of pressured hockey from the home side, Jordan Ferry (Bohemia, NY) scored her first of three goals on the night at 9:48 into the second period.

Ferry scored again to make it 4-0 Colonels with less than four seconds left in the second period. Through the first two periods of play, Wilkes amassed 47 shots on goal.

The Navy and Gold started the third period off with a bang, when Bell scored for the second time of the evening, making it 5-0.

Just over two minutes later at 6:47 into the final frame, Ferry clinched her hat trick. After stealing the puck from a Monarch defender, the Colonel forward sent the puck top shelf on a blistering wrist shot to make it 6-0.

With under five minutes left in the game, Hudakova scored once again, tying Haylee Bouchard's (Sioux Lookout, ON/) single-season goal scoring record with her 20th tally of the season.

The Monarchs answered right back with a goal of their own at 17:25 off a shot from Abby Barlocker. Renee Ng (Hong Kong, China/Mount Academy) then scored with less than two minutes left in the game for the Colonels' eighth goal of the game, finishing off the dominating offensive effort.

In goal for Wilkes, Hannah Garrett-Howard (Missoula, MT) made 10 saves in the win, while McPherson made a total of 59 saves in the loss.

Following this evening's contest, the Colonels honored its two future graduates in Anneke Bouma (Newcastle, ON/) and Olivia Lindberg (Stockholm, Sweden), who finished the game with two points in the Senior Day victory.

Wilkes plays its final home game of the season tomorrow, Feb. 14 for a matchup with Alvernia. Puck drop against the Golden Wolves is set for 5 p.m. from the Toyota Sportsplex.
