WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Wilkes University men's hockey team took to the ice for the final time in regular season play in the Middle Atlantic Conference on Friday night, defeating Misericordia University, 4-1.

The Colonels finish the regular season with a record of 15-7-3 (12-7-2 MAC), while Misericordia finishes 5-19-1 (5-15-1 MAC).

Wilkes began the scoring when Carter Jordan (Fort Collins, CO/) gave the Colonels a 1-0 lead with a wrist shot at 3:19 into the first period, beating the blocker side of Cougars goaltender Mason Jones. Liam O'Donoghue (Canonsburg, PA) and Cam Lowe (Lancaster, MA/) provided the assists on the play.

Under 11 minutes later, the Colonels struck again, this time from Jack Lee (Naperville, IL). O'Donoghue and Trevor Belak (Pittsburgh, PA) assisted on the play that sent Wilkes into the first intermission with a two-goal advantage.

It took the Colonels just over a minute-and-a-half into the second period to light the lamp again, this time with Matt Carlson (Delmar, NY/) tucking it in for 3-0. O'Donoghue provided his third assist of the evening on the play, while Lee recorded his second point of the night with a helper as well.

Misericordia found life just over five minutes later at 6:52 when Ethan Hollingsworth found twine, cutting the Cougar deficit to two.The Colonels put on quite a lot of pressure on Misericordia throughout the send period, but alas, it remained 3-1 going into the second intermission.

The Colonels found the back of the net again with Lowe lighting the lamp to make it a 4-1 contest. Jordan and Owen Penny (Livonia, MI) notched the assists on the play.

The rest of the period saw both sides have a few good scoring opportunities, but the Colonel defense and goaltending stood strong, and sealed the win.

In total, the Colonels had four multi-point scorers with O'Donoghue (3A) finishing with three, while Lowe, Jordan and Lee each scored two (1G, 1A). Jeffrey Fillion (Chicoutimi, QC) stood strong throughout the contest, notching 28 saves. Carlson led the Navy and Gold with five shots on goal.

For Misericordia, Mason Jones made 40 saves on the night in a valiant effort between the pipes. Four Cougar skaters shared the team-lead for shots on goal with three each.

The Colonels return to action on Feb. 28 with a MAC semi-final playoff matchup with details to come after the conclusion of the rest of tonight's MAC men's hockey games.
