Conley Hits 1,000 Assists as Wilkes Men's Volleyball Defeats Wilson College 3-1

WILKES-BARRE – Sophomore setter Joshua Conley (Chalfont, PA/Central Bucks South) became the third player in Wilkes Men's Volleyball history to eclipse the 1,000-assist milestone Wednesday night, as he and the Colonels took down the visiting Wilson College Phoenix at the Marts Center 3-1 (26-24, 25-15, 23-25, 25-15).

Wilkes heads into spring break with a 10-9 overall record, while Wilson falls to 7-5 on the year.

The Colonels took the opening set in extra points, turning a late 18-15 deficit into a 21-20 lead with service aces by Trey Tellier (Sayville, NY/Sayville) and Aaron Ladd (Souderton, PA/Pennridge) helping turn the tides. With the score tied at 24, a kill by Ladd and Wilson attack error gave Wilkes the night's first set.

Wilkes then raced out to a 9-3 lead to start the second, helped on by two kills from Carter Otto (Mountain View, CA/Mountain View). Another five point run with two kills and a block by Conley saw the Colonels go up 15-6, holding the lead en route to an emphatic 25-15 set victory.

The Phoenix came back to take the third set, overcoming a 13-9 Colonel lead with a late run. Wilkes finished off the match with a late scoring blitz, outscoring Wilson 15-5 in the final points to take the set and match 25-15. Johnnathan Rocha (Wilkes Barre, PA/Holy Redeemer) led the Colonels over that stretch with four kills.

Otto led the Colonels with 13 kills, followed by Rocha and Aidan Hunter (Sinking Spring, PA/Wilson) with 11 and Ladd with 10. Conley led the team with 51 assists, including his milestone 1,000th assist. Tellier (13), Conley (12), and Alex Derk (Perkasie, PA/Pennridge) (11) all finished the day with double-digit digs.

Jacob McCoy led Wilson with 12 kills, while Satvik Sharma had a team-high 26 assists. On defense, Camden Sterner and Scotty Zorn led the defensive effort with nine digs each.

Wilkes returns on the other side of spring break with CVC play, hosting Marymount University on Wednesday, March 11th at 5:00 p.m.
