Hartranft Finishes Competition at NCAA Championships
CEDAR RAPIDS, IA – Wilkes University senior men's wrestling standout
Jaryn Hartranft (Catasauqua, PA/Catasauqua) saw his career come to an end after going 1-2 in the opening day of the 2026 NCAA Championships on Friday afternoon at Alliant Energy PowerHouse.
Hartranft finishes his stellar career in the Navy and Gold as a two-time NCAA qualifier and a 105-43 overall record.
He began his tournament with a 15-5 major decision over Ryan Kozdra of Springfield College to move into the second round of action. Hartranft led 3-0 after an early takedown in the first period before Kozdra answered with an escape and subsequent takedown to hold a 4-3 advantage. The high scoring first period continued as Hartranft escaped and finished off the frame with a takedown with 43 seconds on the clock to take a 7-4 lead after one.
Kozdra chose bottom after Hartranft deferred and scored a point on an escape to cut the lead to 7-5. Hartranft answered back with his third takedown of the match pushing the advantage to 10-5 as the second period ended.
Hartranft put the match out of reach with 1:28 left in the third using an escape and fourth takedown to lead by nine then used riding time to secure the extra-point major decision.
The win setup a match with top-seeded, second-ranked Peter Kane of Williams College. Hartranft scored first with a takedown of the three-time All-American with 2:05 left in the first period. Kane responded with an escape then finished the period with a takedown of his own to take a 4-3 lead after one. Hartranft choose bottom and found his way for the escape point, but Kane finished off the bout with a fall in 3:28 of the second period.
Hartranft then wrestled in the consolation wrestlebacks against Gavin Pascoe of Gettysburg College. Pascoe took a 3-0 lead with 1:48 left in the first period before Hartranft used an escape and penalty point to cut into the lead trailing 3-2 after one. He began the second period with another escape tying the match at three before Pascoe used a second takedown to go back on top 6-3 with 1:21 left in the frame. Following a Hartranft escape, Pascoe claimed another takedown to finish the second period leading 9-4.
Hartranft continued to fight in the final period with a takedown with 59 seconds left in the bout trailing 9-7. Pascoe used one more escape point then went to the defensive the final 35 seconds to hold on to the three point decision win and end the tournament run of Hartranft.
