Wilkes Women's Tennis Falls 4-3 Against Roanoke
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC – Roanoke College posted wins in four of six singles flights on way to a 4-3 non-conference victory over the Wilkes University women's tennis team Monday night.
Wilkes slipped to 2-3 overall in dual matches on the season following its second match during its spring break trip.
Wilkes took a 1-0 lead after doubles play thanks to wins from No. 1 pair of
Ana Savkovic (Belgrade, Serbia/The Hoosac School) and
Julia Spaeth (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg Area) 6-3 and No. 3 duo of
Isabel Schreffler (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown West) and
Ava Vacula (Exeter, PA/Wyoming Area Secondary Center) 6-2.
Savkovic took her No. 1 singles match in straight sets 6-1, 6-3 to remain unbeaten in singles play. Vacula was the other Colonel winner in singles action posting a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 6.
Roanoke clinched the match with straight set wins at singles No. 2, 3, 4 and 5.
Wilkes is back in action tomorrow with a dual match against the University of Dubuque at 5:00 p.m.
