Wilkes Men's Volleyball Drops Conference Matchup Against Southern Virginia 3-0

BUENA VISTA, Va. – The Wilkes men's volleyball team dropped a Continental Volleyball Conference (CVC) matchup to Southern Virginia University in straight sets Saturday afternoon at Knight Arena, with the Knights taking all three frames by identical 25-16 scores.

With the loss, Wilkes falls to 10-13 overall and 0-5 in CVC play, while Southern Virginia improves to 23-3 on the season and 4-0 in conference action.

The Colonels stayed within striking distance early in each set, but Southern Virginia used late surges to create separation and secure the sweep. The Knights were efficient offensively, hitting .438 compared to Wilkes' .147, and held the advantage in most statistical categories. The Colonels did find success at the net, however, out-blocking Southern Virginia 4-2.

Aidan Hunter (Sinking Spring, PA/Wilson) and Aaron Ladd (Souderton, PA/Pennridge) led Wilkes with six kills apiece while also contributing two blocks each. Joshua Conley (Chalfont, PA/Central Bucks South) directed the offense with a team-high nine assists, and Trey Tellier (Sayville, NY/Sayville) anchored the back row with five digs.

Southern Virginia was paced by Trajan Wadsworth with nine kills, while Gehrig Tolman dished out 18 assists. Mitchell Barney led the defensive effort with 10 digs.

Wilkes returns to the Marts Center on Tuesday, March 24, for a non-conference matchup against Penn State Schuylkill. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
