Wilkes Women's Tennis Defeated 5-2 Against Catholic in Landmark Opener
EDWARDSVILLE – The Wilkes University women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to visiting Catholic University in its Landmark Conference opener Saturday afternoon at the Ralston Athletic Complex.
Wilkes fell to 3-5 overall and 0-1 in conference matches following the defeat. Catholic improved to 5-8 overall and remained unbeaten at 2-0 in Landmark competition.
Catholic took two of three flights in doubles play to record the opening point.
Ana Savkovic (Belgrade, Serbia/The Hoosac School) and
Julia Spaeth (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg Area) won No. 1 doubles 6-3 for the lone Wilkes victory in pairs.
Savkovic continued her fine play at No. 1 singles winning 6-1, 6-1 over Shloka Tambat.
Isabel Schreffler (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown West) posted Wilkes' second win in singles play with a 6-2, 4-6, 7-5 decision at No. 3.
Wilkes continues Landmark play Wednesday when the Colonels travel to the University of Scranton at 3:30 p.m.
