Wilkes Women's Tennis Claims First Landmark Win of the Year
ELIZABETHTOWN, PA – The Wilkes University women's tennis team secured its first Landmark Conference win of the season after the Colonels claimed a 5-1 decision over host Elizabethtown College Saturday afternoon in the Bowers Center.
Wilkes improved to 4-5 overall and 1-1 in Landmark matches following the win. Elizabethtown dropped to 2-5 overall and 0-4 in league contests.
Wilkes won five of six in singles play to secure the victory. Ava Savkovic won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 while
Julia Spaeth (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg Area) bested Katie Balzano 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2.
Isabel Schreffler (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown West) was a 6-1, 6-1 winner over Mariia Yeni and
Kensington Edmond (Mount Joy, PA/Donegal) (No. 4) and
Ava Vacula (Exeter, PA/Wyoming Area Secondary Center) (No. 5) were straight set winners on way to the league victory.
Doubles competition was not played since the Colonels clinched the match in singles play.
Wilkes returns to action Thursday when the Colonels travel to the University of Scranton for a Landmark match at 4:00 p.m.
