Wilkes Men's Tennis Upended by Scranton 5-2
EDWARDSVILLE – Visiting University of Scranton claimed two of three in doubles play before clinching the match winning four of six singles flights on way to a 5-2 Landmark Conference victory over the Wilkes University men's tennis team Tuesday afternoon at the Ralston Athletic Complex.
Wilkes slipped to 5-3 overall and 1-2 in Landmark matches while Scranton improved to 6-6 overall and remain unbeaten at 3-0 in conference play.
Scranton claimed wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to take a 1-0 lead after pairs play. The duo of
Sebastian Sylvester (Diego Martin, Trinidad and Tobago/The College of Lady Fatima) and
Cole Riley (Louisville, KY/Xavier) were 6-0 winners at No. 1 for Wilkes.
Scranton then clinched the match with wins at No. 1, 2, 3 and 6 singles.
Landon Gleichauf (Naples, NY/Naples) took his No. 4 singles match 6-0, 6-2 while
Xavier Bleiler (Mountain Top, PA/MMI Prep) won 6-7 (3-7), 6-1, 10-6 at No. 5 singles for the Colonels two points.
Wilkes returns to the court Friday with its final non-conference match of the year against The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) at 3:30 p.m. at the Ralston Athletic Complex.
