Wilkes Men's Tennis Cruises to 5-2 Victory Over Bridgewater (Va.)
HLTON HEAD ISLAND, SC – The Wilkes University men's tennis team cruised to a 5-2 non-conference victory over Bridgewater College (Va.) on Thursday afternoon in the third match of its spring break trip.
Wilkes improved to 3-1 overall in dual matches on the season following the win while Bridgewater dropped to 5-4 overall on the year.
In doubles play
Sebastian Sylvester (Diego Martin, Trinidad and Tobago/The College of Lady Fatima) and
Cole Riley (Louisville, KY/Xavier) teamed for a 6-2 win at No. 1 while
Xavier Bleiler (Mountain Top, PA/MMI Prep) and
Landon Gleichauf (Naples, NY/Naples) posted a 6-1 victory at No. 2.
Sylvester opened singles play with a 6-0, 6-0 straight set win at No. 2 followed by Bleiler's 5-7, 6-2, 10-5 thriller at No. 3.
Otarhe Okoh (Shakopee, MN/Shakopee) (No. 4) and Gleichauf (No. 5) clinched the match with wins in their respective flights in straight sets for the Colonels.
Wilkes concludes its final day on its spring break trip tomorrow (Friday) when the Colonels compete against Johnson and Wales University (N.C.) at 10:00 a.m.
