Big First Half Propels Goucher Over Wilkes Women's Lacrosse 16-7
 
BALTIMORE, MD – Host Goucher College outscored the Wilkes University women's lacrosse team 13-3 over the first two quarters on way to a 16-7 Landmark Conference victory Wednesday night.
 
Wilkes slipped to 8-4 overall and 0-4 in Landmark play while Goucher improved to 5-7 overall and 1-3 in league contests following the home win.
 
Wilkes tied the game at one with 9:53 left in the first quarter when Karinne Podwika (Duryea, PA/Pittston Area Senior) scored on a free position shot. Goucher answered back with three straight goals before Nina-Lily Veale (Franklin, TN/Franklin) scored unassisted to cut the lead to 4-2. After Alexis Guttilla (Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph by-the-Sea) notched her first goal of the game off a Veale assist, the Gophers fired in eight unanswered goals over the final 11:05 of the first half to take a 13-3 advantage to the break.
 
Morgan Hettesheimer (Monroe Twp., PA/Tunkhannock Area) and Podwika scored the Colonels two goals over the third quarter of play before Tayllor Sparks notched her team-leading 23rd goal and Podwika completed the hat trick to round out the Wilkes scoring in the fourth and final frame.
 
Goucher held a 29-17 shot advantage while collecting 17-of-25 draw controls in the win.
 
Davyn Bonvie (Wyoming, PA/Dallas) finished with four saves in the loss for Wilkes in goal.
 
Wilkes remains idle through the Easter holiday before returning to Landmark play on Wednesday hosting Drew University at 7:00 p.m. at Schmidt Stadium.
