Drew Posts Landmark Victory Over Wilkes Women's Lacrosse
 
EDWARDSVILLE – Visiting Drew University raced out to a double-digit lead at the half on way to an 18-5 Landmark Conference victory over the Wilkes University women's lacrosse team Wednesday night at Schmidt Stadium.
 
Wilkes fell to 8-5 overall and 0-5 in Landmark play while Drew improved to 8-4 overall and 3-2 in league games.
 
Drew stormed out to a 6-1 lead after one quarter before firing in seven more goals in the second frame to take a 13-2 lead at the break. Alexis Guttilla (Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph by-the-Sea) notched her team-leading 30th goal of the season with 8:09 left in the first quarter before Emily Jackson (Wyoming, PA/Wyoming Area) took a pass from Karinne Podwika (Duryea, PA/Pittston Area Senior) and beat the Rangers goalie for the Colonels second goal of the game with 7:47 left in the second frame.
 
Wilkes added two goals in the third quarter as Nina-Lily Veale (Franklin, TN/Franklin) scored off a helper from Podwika then Podwika posted her third point of the game and her first goal of the contest off an assist from Veale. Drew continued to lead 16-4 after three.
 
The Colonels final goal came off the stick of Madyson Martinez (Owasso, OK/Owasso) as she found the back of the net off a free position with 9:56 left in the fourth quarter.
 
Ten different Rangers reached the point column in the conference road victory. Drew outshot Wilkes 40-7 while limiting Wilkes to just 8-for-18 on clearing attempts. Davyn Bonvie (Wyoming, PA/Dallas) finished with 12 saves in goal for Wilkes.
 
Wilkes is back in action Saturday with another Landmark contest against Elizabethtown College at 1:00 p.m. at Schmidt Stadium in the Colonels Morgan's Message dedication game.
