Wilkes Women's Lacrosse Drops Landmark Game Against Elizabethtown

EDWARDSVILLE – Visiting Elizabethtown College scored eight first quarter goals and never looked back on way to a 22-7 Landmark Conference victory over the Wilkes University women's lacrosse team Saturday afternoon at Schmidt Stadium.

Wilkes dropped to 8-6 overall and 0-6 in league games while Elizabethtown improved to 8-5 overall and 3-3 in conference contests.

Elizabethtown jumped out to an 8-1 lead after one quarter as Alexis Guttilla (Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph by-the-Sea) was the lone goal scorer for Wilkes in the frame thanks to an assist from Madyson Martinez (Owasso, OK/Owasso) with 3:59 on the clock.

Taylor Sparks (Monroeville, NJ/Woodstown) added her team-leading 47th point with a goal at 14:15 of the second quarter to cut the Blue Jays advantage to 9-2. Karinne Podwika (Duryea, PA/Pittston Area Senior) scored twice on free position attempts later in the frame as the Colonels continued to trail 15-4 at the break.

Podwika continued her offensive attack with her third goal of the game off a back-handed shot that found the back of the net with six minutes remaining in the third quarter. Nina-Lily Veale (Franklin, TN/Franklin) scored off an assist from Martinez also in the third frame.

Guttilla then notched her second goal of the afternoon and team-leading 32nd of the season with six minutes left in the fourth to close out the Colonels scoring in the game.

Elizabethtown out shot Wilkes 36-12 while converting 7-of-8 clearing attempts. The Blue Jays were also 3-for-3 on free position attempts.

Davyn Bonvie (Wyoming, PA/Dallas) finished with nine saves in goal for Wilkes.
