Wilkes Women's Tennis Earns Second Landmark Win of the Season with 4-3 Decision Over Goucher
BALTIMORE, MD – The Wilkes University women's tennis team picked up its second Landmark Conference victory of the season as the Colonels squeaked by host Goucher College 4-3 on Sunday afternoon.
With the win Wilkes improved to 5-7 overall and 2-3 in league matches. Goucher dropped to 2-11 overall and 2-3 in Landmark matches.
Wilkes earned the point in doubles play thanks to wins from No. 1 and No. 3.
Ana Savkovic (Belgrade, Serbia/The Hoosac School) and
Julia Spaeth (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg Area) won 6-3 at the top spot while
Ava Vacula (Exeter, PA/Wyoming Area Secondary Center) and
Isabel Schreffler (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown West) earned a 6-1 victory at the number three position.
Savkovic kept her perfect record intact at No.1 singles with a straight set 6-1, 6-0 win. Vacula won at No. 5 6-4, 6-2 and
Isabella Bopp (Verona, NJ/Verona) clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 6 singles.
Wilkes looks to keep the momentum going on Wednesday when they travel to Drew University for a Landmark match starting at 3:30 p.m.
