Wilkes Women's Tennis Falls at Drew 4-3
MADISON, NJ – Host Drew University edged the Wilkes University women's tennis team 4-3 in Landmark Conference action Wednesday afternoon at the Drew Tennis Complex.
Wilkes moved to 5-8 overall and 2-4 in league matches. Drew improved to 9-8 overall and 5-2 in Landmark play.
Drew claimed the team point in doubles play winning both the No. 2 and No. 3 pairs matches. Wilkes' top duo of
Ana Savkovic (Belgrade, Serbia/The Hoosac School) and
Julia Spaeth (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg Area) were 6-3 winners over Natalia Zamora and Madison Williams.
Savkovic kept her perfect record (13-0) at the No. 1 singles position winning in straight sets over Riley Roesel 6-0, 6-0.
Isabel Schreffler (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown West) took her match at No. 2 singles over Natalia Zamora 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 while
Isabella Bopp (Verona, NJ/Verona) was the final singles winner for the Colonels taking her No. 6 match over N. Melendez Sanchez 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-8).
Drew claimed wins at No. 3, 4 and 5 to edged out the one point victory.
Wilkes is back on the courts Friday with a non-conference dual match against FDU-Florham starting at 3:00 p.m. at the Ralston Athletic Complex.
