WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - The Wilkes University women's tennis team completed a clean 7-0 sweep of the FDU-Florham Devils Friday afternoon at the Ralston Athletic Complex.

The Colonels improve to 6-8 this season, while the Devils fall to 0-8.

Wilkes earned a team point in doubles play by sweeping all three matches. Julia Spaeth (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg Area) and Wanda Owens (Lancaster, PA/Hempfield) won their No. 1 pairs match 6-0, and then Breanna Herdine (Haslet, TX/) and Eva Winters (York, PA/Red Land) won the No. 2 match 6-3. Lastly, the Colonels took the final doubles match by default.

That success translated to singles play by winning all six matches, including the No. 5 and No. 6 matches by default. Kensington Edmond (Mount Joy, PA/Donegal) took the No. 1 match over Giavana Caraccioli in straight sets 6-1 and 6-0. Isabella Bopp (Verona, NJ/Verona) and Rebecca Gula (Exeter, PA/Wyoming Area) swept both of their opponents in the No. 2 and No. 4 matches without surrendering a single point, and Owens won the No. 3 match over Melanie Perez 6-4 and 6-1.

The Colonels return to the court tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. for a Landmark Conference match against Juniata at home.
