Wilkes Women's Tennis Records Back-to-Back Wins with 5-2 Decision over Juniata
EDWARDSVILLE, Pa. – The Wilkes University women's tennis team made it two wins in as many days as the Colonels defeated the Eagles of Juniata College 5-2 at the Ralston Athletic Complex Saturday afternoon.
Wilkes improves to 7-8 (3-4 Landmark) overall with the victory, while Juniata falls to 7-6 (4-3 Landmark) on the year.
The Colonels took the team point in doubles action as
Ana Savkovic (Belgrade, Serbia/The Hoosac School) and
Julia Spaeth (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg Area) won in No. 1 singles action 6-3, while
Isabella Bopp (Verona, NJ/Verona) and
Kensington Edmond (Mount Joy, PA/Donegal) took the No. 3 doubles match 6-1 to clinch the point.
Savkovic continued her dominance at No. 1 singles, defeating Medina Yessenaliyeva 6-4, 6-0.
Isabel Schreffler (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown West) followed at No. 2 with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Celia Navarro de Torres. Spaeth made it three in a row at the top of the card with a 7-6, 4-6, (5) win in the tiebreaker over Nina Meadows.
Ava Vacula (Exeter, PA/Wyoming Area Secondary Center) scored a victory in the No. 4 spot over Skylar Grabarski 6-0, 7-5 to seal the win for Wilkes.
The Colonels return to the court tomorrow, April 19
th, as they travel to Susquehanna University to face off with the River Hawks. Competition is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.
