Wilkes Women's Tennis Sweeps Lycoming in Landmark Victory
EDWARDSVILLE – The Wilkes University women's tennis team pushed its dual match wins streak to four and posted its fifth Landmark Conference victory as the Colonels posted a 7-0 sweep over visiting Lycoming College Wednesday afternoon at the Ralston Athletic Complex.
Wilkes improved to 9-8 overall and 5-4 in league matches while Lycoming fell to 2-14 overall and 0-9 in Landmark contests.
Wilkes cruised to the team point in doubles play not allowing a point.
Ana Savkovic (Belgrade, Serbia/The Hoosac School) and
Ava Vacula (Exeter, PA/Wyoming Area Secondary Center) won 6-0 at No.1 and
Wanda Owens (Lancaster, PA/Hempfield) and
Julia Spaeth (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg Area) posted a 6-0 win at No. 2. Lycoming defaulted at No. 3 doubles.
Isabel Schreffler (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown West) took her No. 1 singles match 5-7, 6-1, 10-7. Spaeth posted a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 2 while
Kensington Edmond (Mount Joy, PA/Donegal) won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3. Vacula (6-3, 6-4) and
Rebecca Gula (Exeter, PA/Wyoming Area) (6-3, 6-4) finished off the singles wins at No. 4 and No. 5 respectively. Lycoming defaulted at No. 6 singles.
Wilkes closes out its regular season at home against King's College on Friday at 3:00 p.m. at the Ralston Athletic Complex.
