Wilkes Women's Tennis Preps for Postseason with 7-0 Victory Over King's
EDWARDSVILLE – The Wilkes University women's tennis team prepped for its trip to the Landmark Conference Tournament next week with a 7-0 victory over cross-town rival King's College Friday afternoon at the Ralston Athletic Complex.
Wilkes improved to 10-8 overall following the regular season finale win while King's dropped to 0-12 overall in dual matches this year.
Wilkes cruised in doubles play allowing just two points in three matches.
Ana Savkovic (Belgrade, Serbia/The Hoosac School) and
Julia Spaeth (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg Area) teamed at No. 1 to win 6-0 while
Breanna Herdine (Haslet, TX/) and
Wanda Owens (Lancaster, PA/Hempfield) won 6-0 at No. 2. The duo of
Rebecca Gula (Exeter, PA/Wyoming Area) and
Eva Winters (York, PA/Red Land) finished off the sweep of doubles flights with a 6-2 victory at No. 3.
Isabel Schreffler (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown West) began singles play with a hard-fought 7-6 (8-6), 6-3 win at No. 1. Spaeth won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 while
Kensington Edmond (Mount Joy, PA/Donegal) recorded a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3.
Ava Vacula (Exeter, PA/Wyoming Area Secondary Center) (No. 4), Owens (No. 5) and Winters (No. 6) closed out the sweep for the Colonels with straight set singles wins.
Wilkes, the fifth seed, will now ready for its Landmark Conference Tournament First Round match at No. 4 seed Drew University on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m.
