Wilkes Women's Soccer Wins Season Opener Against King's College
WILKES-BARRE - The Wilkes women's soccer team opened their season with a 1-0 victory over their cross-town rivals King's College.
After a lengthy rain delay, Wilkes got their opportunity to shine in the 62nd minute when the Monarchs conceded a free kick just outside of the penalty area. Junior
Elena Krajain (Lumberton, NJ/Rancocas Valley Regional) capitalized on the opportunity with a strong strike that found the back of the net, recording the second goal of her career. This proved to be all the Colonels needed to secure a win over their cross-town rivals.
Wilkes put on a dominant offensive performance with 12 shots, including six on goal.
Sarah Straup (Pennsburg, PA/Upper Perkiomen) led the Colonels with three shots on goal, while
Abby Bolz (Fair Hill, MD/Rising Sun) followed closely behind with two. The back line maintained a great defensive effort, allowing only two shots on the night. Junior
Delaney Yaracs (Butler, PA/Butler) also recorded a clean sheet, helping the Colonels succeed.
The Colonels will return to action for their home opener at Bruggesworth Field on Friday, September 4 against William Paterson University.
