EDWARDSVILLE, Pa. – The Wilkes University field hockey team recorded their first win of the year on Friday evening, defeating SUNY Oswego 6-1 at Schmidt Stadium on Senior Day.

Wilkes improves to 1-3 on the year, while Oswego suffers their first loss falling to 3-1.

Morgan Hermanofski (Shickshinny, PA/Northwest Area) opened the scoring in the first quarter, redirecting a long shot by Maddie Karp (Pittston, PA/Pittston Area) off of a penalty corner for her first goal of the season. Karp picked up her second assist of the night a few minutes later, as Taylor Bower (Bloomsburg, PA/Bloomsburg) doubled the lead at 8:55. The Lakers picked up their first goal of the evening with 3:54 left in the quarter, giving Wilkes the 2-1 advantage going into the second.

The Colonels restored the two-goal advantage with just over six minutes left in the second, as Lydia Keppel (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) opened her account for the year to make it a 3-1 game, a lead the Colonels took into halftime. Wilkes dominated the chances in the second frame, outshooting the Lakers 5-0.

Karp added to her two prior goal contributions with a goal to open the third quarter, putting Wilkes ahead 4-1. Keppel then added her second of the night just under five minutes into the third, the team's second off of a penalty corner, assisted by Sage Morgan (Dallas, PA/Lake Lehman).

Hermanofski provided the dagger in the fourth for her second of the night, giving the Colonels a dominant 6-1 win.

Wilkes outshot Oswego 21-3 on the day, with a 16-2 split of shots on goal. Wilkes also posted nine corners to just one for the visitors.

Hermanofski and Keppel led the Colonels with two goals each, with Karp and Keppel tied for a game-high three goal contributions. Karp led the team with four shots, all going on goal. In goal, Olivia Wickel (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) and Chloe Gilroy (Manchester, NH/Pace University) split game time only conceding one goal in two Laker shots on net.

The Colonels return to action tomorrow at 1:00 p.m., as they travel across town to face King's College at McCarthy Stadium.
