Wilkes Field Hockey Wins Second Straight with 4-1 Decision Over King's
WILKES-BARRE –
Sage Morgan (Dallas, PA/Lake Lehman) scored two goals and
Morgan Hermanofski (Shickshinny, PA/Northwest Area) added two assists as the Wilkes University field hockey team won its second game in as many days as the Colonels posted a 4-1 non-league victory at King's College Saturday afternoon at McCarthy Stadium.
Wilkes improved to 2-3 overall on the season marking the second straight game with four or more goals. King's dropped to 1-3 on the year following the home defeat.
After a scoreless first 15 minutes of play, Morgan scored the first of two goals 2:55 into the second quarter to give Wilkes a 1-0 lead. King's responded tying the game just over seven minutes later when Melanie Tlatenchi scored for the Monarchs.
The Colonels answered back in the third and fourth quarters as Morgan notched her second of the game to give the visitors a 2-1 lead 9:10 into the third frame thanks to a helper from Hermanofski. Two minutes later the advantage grew to 3-1 when
Taylor Minick (Reading, PA/Gov. Mifflin Senior) scored unassisted.
Lily Fleming (West Deptford, NJ/GCIT) then sealed the win for Wilkes scoring her first collegiate goal with 1:04 left in the fourth to push the lead to three goals.
Wilkes dominated play in its offensive end all game outshooting King's 26-1 (22-1 on goal) while garnering 15 penalty corners to King's one attempt.
Chloe Gilroy (Manchester, NH/Pace University) played all 60 minutes in cage for the Colonels to record the win.
Wilkes is back in action on Wednesday with another non-conference game at Ithaca College starting at 7:00 p.m. Ithaca stands 4-1 on the season.
