Wilkes Women's Soccer Suffers in Late Defeat to Marywood 1-0

SCRANTON, Pa. –  An 85th minute goal proved to be the difference maker as the Wilkes women's soccer team fell to Marywood, 1-0, on Wednesday night.

The Colonels fall to a 4-2 record while the Pacers improve to a 5-0-1 record.

Chances were limited in a quiet first half, as Marywood outshot Wilkes 5-3. Sarah Straup (Pennsburg, PA/Upper Perkiomen) attempted to end the drought, generating two looks on goal, but both opportunities were saved by Marywood.

In the 85th minute, the Pacers broke through the Colonels' defense, firing a shot that rebounded off of the Wilkes goalkeeper's hands. The loose ball found a lone Marywood attacker, who slotted it home. Emma Devers (Macungie, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) generated one more dangerous offensive attack for the Colonels in the 86th minute, but the effort could not produce an equalizer.

Straup led the team in shots with two, followed by Rachel Keister (Middleburg, PA/Midd-West), Addi Parker (Canton, PA/Canton)Ava Young (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown West), and Devers who each recorded one. In goal, Delaney Yaracs (Butler, PA/Butler) made five saves. For Marywood, Kirkpatrick led the team with five shots, and Morrison kept the clean sheet with four saves on the night.

The Colonels return to action on the road against Widener University on Saturday, September 19. The game will begin at 1 p.m.
