Wilkes Women's Soccer Falls on the Road Against Widener 1-0
CHESTER, Pa – Widener scored the game-winning goal in the 68th minute to secure a 1-0 shutout over the Wilkes women's soccer team on Saturday afternoon.
The Colonels drop 4-3, while the Pride improve 4-2-1 on the season.
Wilkes' offensive attack was incessant in the first half with nine shots, forcing five saves from the Widener goalkeeper. Despite the offensive pressure, the Colonels were unable to fully break down the Pride's defensive shape.
The second half started off with chances traded from both ends, but Widener pulled ahead with nine shots to Wilkes's five. Widener found a goal in the 68th minute with a shot from 25 yards out that slipped into the back of the net.
The Colonels produced an offensive response with shots from
Ava Young (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown West) and
Erin Edwards (East Greenville, PA/Upper Perkiomen), but both shots were not enough to erase the deficit.
Edwards was the leader of shots on the day with three, followed by
Hannah Dennison (Limerick, PA/Spring-Ford) and Young with each sharing two.
Delaney Yaracs (Butler, PA/Butler) finished the game with four saves while playing the full 90 minutes.
The Colonels return to action on Wednesday, September 23 at Bruggeworth Field against Mount Aloysius College. The game will begin at 7 p.m. respectively.
