WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes University football team prepares for a trip to Allentown for a matchup with Muhlenberg College.

The Colonels enter Week Three with a 1–0 record, after defeating TCNJ 28–8 in their home opener.

The Wilkes offense was spearheaded by quarterback Trey Dogmanits (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall), who completed 22 of passes for 148 yards and added 40 rushing yards and two scores in his first career start under center. Dogmanits connected with receiver Juju Fears (Easton, PA/Easton Area) eight times for 58 yards, along with Daniel Pigga (Dunmore, PA/Dunmore) three times for 22 yards. All four of the Colonels' touchdowns in last week's win came on the ground, with quarterback William Smith (Egg Harbor City, NJ/Cedar Creek) and running back Chibugo Chigoze-Nwousu contributing to Dogmanits' scores. Chigoze-Nwosu also paced the Colonels with 79 yards on 15 carries.

On defense, defensive lineman Cohen Creswell (Winchester, VA/Millbrook) had a strong afternoon, having a pair of sacks and recovering a TCNJ fumble. Defensive back Ryan Opperman (Lewisburg, PA/Lewisburg) and linebacker Tyler Wetzel (Sellersville, PA/Pennridge) both recorded 11 tackles, and defensive back Rob Barbieri (Avoca, PA/Pittston Area) picked off a pass in the fourth quarter.

Punter Peter Zarafonitis (Staten Island, NY/New Dorp) earned a spot on the d3football.com Team of the Week on Tuesday, after punting four times for 181 yards, including a 60-yard boot and a 52-yarder that sailed out of bounds at the three-yard line. Kicker Sebastian Hess (Glen Mills, DE/Salesianum) also went four-for-four on extra points in the Colonels victory.

Muhlenberg sits at 1–1, with a 34–7 win at Moravian before falling to No. 25 Endicott 49–21 last week. The Mules are currently receiving five votes in the d3football.com poll.

Muhlenberg's offense is led by quarterback Luke Spang, who is completing 63 percent of his passes for 348 yards and three touchdowns to two interceptions. Spang also pitched in a rushing touchdown against Endicott. Amari Dunn serves as the Mules' primary tailback, taking 39 carries for 193 yards and two touchdowns in Muhlenberg's first two games. Receiver Tommy Donnelly leads the Mules in receiving yards, with 126 on four catches, including a 73-yard score against Moravian.

On defense, linebacker CJ Newman is the Mules' top tackler with 15 stops, followed by Ben Girard with 14. Newman and Thomas Cerruti have both made two tackles for loss, and defensive back Leo Dauberman had two interceptions against Moravian.

The Colonels and Mules met at Schmidt Stadium a season ago, where Muhlenberg used a 20–3 first half to secure a 26–18 victory. Muhlenberg has won each of the last five matchups, with Wilkes' last win coming in 2009.

After Muhlenberg, Wilkes welcomes Montclair State to Schmidt Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 26, with kickoff set for 7:00 p.m.
