Wilkes Women's Tennis Victorious in Fall Dual Match Debut
SCRANTON, PA – The Wilkes University women's tennis posted a 6-1 victory in its first dual match of the fall at Marywood University on Saturday afternoon.
The Colonels claimed wins in all three doubles flights before taking five of six matches in singles play.
The duo of
Julia Spaeth (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg Area) and
Ava Vacula (Exeter, PA/Wyoming Area Secondary Center) won 6-4 at No. 1 doubles while
Isabella Bopp (Verona, NJ/Verona) and
Isabel Schreffler (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown West) won 6-2 at No. 2.
Kayley Skibicki (Hanover, PA/South Western) and
Wanda Owens (Lancaster, PA/Hempfield) teamed to post a 6-1 victory at No. 3 to sweep the matches and take a 1-0 lead.
In singles action, Schreffler won 6-2, 6-4 at No. 1, Spaeth 6-1, 7-5 at No. 2, and Vacula 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3. Skibicki won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4 while Owens finished off the singles winners with a 6-4, 6-2 decision at No. 6.
Wilkes is back in action tomorrow (Sunday) when the squad competes in the Dutchman Invitational hosted by Lebanon Valley College inside at the Hershey Racquet Club starting at 11:00 a.m.
