Wilkes Men's Soccer Drops Conference Opener at Elizabethtown
ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – The Wilkes University men's soccer team opened Landmark Conference play on the road Saturday afternoon, falling at Elizabethtown College 3-0.
Wilkes falls to 0-7 on the year, while the Blue Jays improve to 5-2-2.
The hosts found the back of the net in the 11
th minute to open the scoring and took that lead into halftime.
Wilkes had two great chances in the second half, as
Charles Floyd (Woodbury, NJ/Woodbury) rattled a shot off the woodwork in the 66
th minute and
Kendall Heck's (West Wyoming, PA/Wyoming Area High School) shot in the 70
th minute was saved by the Blue Jay netminder. Elizabethtown added two more goals late to put the game away, scoring in the 82
nd and 86
th minute to create the 3-0 final scoreline.
Heck had the Colonels' lone shot on goal, matching
Giovanni Mazzola (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall High School) with a team-high two shots.
Matthew Conti (Florence, NJ/Florence Township Memorial High School) made his first start of the season in net, registering five saves in defeat.
Three different Blue Jays found the back of the net, with Niko Houck leading the way with two shots on goal. Logan Sumner made one save in the shutout win.
The Colonels return home on Wednesday, September 30 for their next contest, closing out non-conference play against Arcadia University at Bruggeworth Field. Kick off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
