BOX SCORE
DeSales' Katie Dishman rocketed a perfectly placed ball in the upper left hand corner of the net in the 66th minute from 25 yards out to score the lone goal of the Freedom Conference matchup between Wilkes and DeSales.
“It was a great shot. There was nothing we could do about it,” said Wilkes' head coach
John Sumoski. “We should have had a body near the ball, but we didn't and they took advantage.”
With the win, the Bulldogs defeated Wilkes for the first time in 12-career meetings and move to 6-5-1 overall on the year and 3-0 in conference play, while the Lady Colonels see their record fall to 5-9-1 overall and 1-3 in league play.
“I thought we played really well in the first half with everyone playing fearless, but during the second half we were kicking the ball in the air too much,” stated Sumoski.
The Bulldogs out-shot the Lady Colonels 14-11, with two more shots on goal. Wilkes' goalkeeper Jess Berkey and DeSales' goalkeeper Melissa Millili both made four saves on the afternoon.
“The team showed some great flashes of soccer today, but what are you going to do,” Sumoski commented about the game.
The Lady Colonels return to conference action on Saturday when they travel to Reading to take on Alvernia at 1:00 p.m.
