WILKES-BARRE – Taryn Hallowell (Belvidere, N.J./Belvidere) recorded her second-consecutive hat trick and dished out an assist as Wilkes University cruised to a 6-1 win over cross town rival King's College.

Hallowell's performance gives her 12 goals on the season, just three away from tying the school record of 15 set by Christina Waldele in 2003 along with Meaghan Haddad in 1994 and Holly Shiber in 2000.

“Taryn looked very fast today. She was very explosive and dangerous,” head coach John Sumoski said.

Katy Fissel (Madison, N.J./Madison) broke a scoreless tie 13 minutes in with an assist from Alison Weidman (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) for one of her six shots on the night. The Lady Colonels had 26 total shots, while King's was only able to get off three shots, including just one on goal.

Just over seven minutes later, Kaitlin Vargo (Edison, N.J./Union Catholic) made it 2-0 off a corner kick from Fissel before Hallowell scored three-straight goals. Her first goal came at the 41 minute mark off an assist from Casandra Valentin (Haskell, N.J./Lakeland) to give Wilkes a 3-0 halftime lead. Hallowell's second goal came at the 51st minute and just three minutes later scored her third goal of the night.

“I think we have high spirits right now. The girls are having a good time playing and it's really showing,” Sumoski said.

After Hallowell made it 5-0, Megan Clementson (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) scored 61 seconds later on a shot that sailed over the head of King's goal keeper Rachael Donatiello.

King's Becky Chateauneuf scored at the 84 minute mark to spoil the shutout for the Lady Colonels, who used three goal keepers in the game.

The win improved Wilkes to 7-9-1 overall and 3-3 in league play, while King's fell to 2-13-1 overall and 0-5 in Freedom Conference play.
