The Wilkes University women's soccer team dropped a tough 3-2 decision to conference foe Delaware Valley College on Saturday afternoon at Ralston Field.

With the win, the Aggies' record moves to 7-1-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play while the Lady Colonels' record slides to 5-6-1 overall and 1-1 in the conference.

Delaware Valley scored the only goal of the first half when Emily Perryman took a pass from Elise Dauber and beat Wilkes' keeper Jess Berkey at the 27:22 mark to give the Aggies the 1-0 advantage.

The Aggies would extend their lead to 2-0 when Dauber was able to connect for her second goal of the game at the 56:40 mark.

Wilkes would cut the lead in half just over eight minutes later as Katy Fissel (Madison, N.J./Madison) scored an unassisted goal to make it 2-1.

However, Delaware Valley would take their lead back to two when Nicki Martini found the back of the net at the 80:51 mark.

The Lady Colonels once again answered, this time less than three minutes later when Fissel put a corner kick into the box that would bounce off of the back of an Aggie defender and into the back of the net. Allyssa Kelley (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) was credited with the goal for Wilkes to take the score to 3-2.

However, the Lady Colonels were unable to score an equalizer in the final six minutes of play.

“Delaware Valley is very strong team with a lot of attacking potential,” stated head coach John Sumoski. “We came out sluggish, but the second half was much stronger for us, as we had a lot of chances.”

Cortney Bower made seven saves in goal for Delaware Valley, while Berkey stopped four shots for Wilkes.

“We just need to look forward to our next conference game,” added Sumoski.

The Lady Colonels will return to action on Tuesday when they play host to Kean in non-conference action that is set to begin at 4 p.m. They will return to conference action next Saturday when they travel to St. Davids to take on Eastern at 12 p.m.
