The Lady Colonels finished the season with an overall record of 10-10-1 and a conference mark of 5-3, while Eastern sees their record improve to 13-5 and a perfect 8-0 in conference play. Eastern will now host Delaware Valley in the Freedom Conference Championship game on Saturday.
Corie Brant led the Eagles with a hat-trick and an assist in the victory, while Ashley Hackman, Lauren Roe and Tess Beckwith each chipped in a goal of their own. Beckwith, Hackman, Tanya Lang and Kristine Zeiset each recorded one helper on the afternoon.
Eastern dominated Wilkes in shots 17-0, and also held an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks. “We did not play the way we had set out to play obviously. We didn't have our legs and we were not working as hard as we could have if we were fresh,” head coach
John Sumoski said. “They are one of the best teams in the region and that showed today.”
Jessica Berkey (Johnstown, Pa./Richland) and
Sarah Shetler (Pequea, Pa./Penn Manor) split time in goal for the Lady Colonels. Berkey made seven saves in the contest, while Shetler stopped one shot.
“It was a good learning experience for a young team that is mostly returning next year. We can use this to move forward and prepare us for the future. It also helps us to know how hard we need to work to win it next year,” Sumoski said.
