Box Score

Wilkes University took a quick 2-0 lead over St. Lawrence, but it wasn't enough as the Saints stormed back to score three goals in the second half to win the North Country Lotto Classic title.

Jess Gannon scored her third goal of the tournament with just eight minutes in to give the Lady Colonels a 1-0 lead when she connected on a pass from Alison Weidman (Lititz, Pa./Warwick).  Gannon's shot hit the inside post before reaching the back of the net to give Wilkes the early advantage.

Julissa Reed (Coal Township, Pa./Shamokin), who was named to the all-tournament team, made it 2-0 when she scored at the 23 minute mark off a pass from Gannon.

In the second half, St. Lawrence took advantage of its five corner kicks in the second half, scoring two of their three goals.  The Saints' Becca Townsend scored her second goal of the tournament off the corner from Elena Rogers before Nicky Hynes scored off a corner kick from Rogers as well.

St. Lawrence broke the tie at the 89 minute mark when Kristen Newton scored the game-winning goal.  “We played well in the first half, but in the second half we had a hard time adjusting to what they were doing,” head coach John Sumoski said.  “We gave the ball away.  There were a lot of times where we would win the ball then just give it right back to them.  We spent most of our time chasing in the second half.”

Also named to the all-tournament team were Alyssa Kelly and Casandra Valentin (Haskell, N.J./Lakeland).

The Lady Colonels will be back in action Wednesday when they head to Grantham to take on Messiah.
