Allentown - The Wilkes men's tennis team opened up their 2008 fall season on Sunday when they competed in the Mule Classic hosted by Muhlenburg College. The Colonels saw victories from
Evan Katz (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) at No. 4 singles and from the tandem of
Chris Cozzillio (Harrisburg, Pa./Trinity) and
Brian Fanelli (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) at No. 3 doubles.
In singles action, Wilkes saw one victory in a final match and four wins in consolation matches. Katz defeated Kevin Holze from Moravian 8-4, while
Jon Rohrbach (Muncy, Pa./Muncy) lost 8-5 in the final match of No. 6 singles. The Colonel winners of the consolation matches were
Jeremy Nolt (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia) at No. 1 singles,
Wes McCollum (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) in the No. 2 spot, Cozzillio at No. 3 and Fanelli at the No. 5 spot.
In doubles play, the tandem of Nolt and Katz won the consolation match at No. 1 doubles, while McCollum and Rohrbach lost in the finals at No. 2. Cozzillio and Fanelli picked up a victory in the No. 3 doubles final for the Colonels.
Wilkes returns to action on September 27 when they travel to Marywood for a 3:30 p.m. start.
