SCRANTON – The Wilkes University men's tennis team opened the 2008 dual match season in convincing fashion, taking a 7-2 win over Marywood.
In doubles action, the tandem of
Wes McCollum (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) and
Brian Fanelli (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) took an 8-0 win over Bao Nguyen and John Domider at the No. 3 spot before
Jeremy Nolt (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia) and
Evan Katz (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) made it 2-0 with an 8-1 win at the No. 2 spot.
In singles play, Fanelli gave the Colonels a 3-1 advantage with a 6-0, 6-1 straight-set win over Domider at the No. 6 spot.
Chris Cozzillio (Harrisburg, Pa./Trinity) quickly made it 4-1 with a 6-1, 6-1 win at the No. 4 position. John Rohrbach, playing at the No. 5 spot clinched the match by defeating Nguyen, 6-0, 6-1 before McCollum made it 6-1 with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Franzone.
Katz rounded out the scoringfor the Colonels with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Evan Bolus to make it 7-1. Marywood's Greg Chilson took a 7-6 (7-2), 206, 10-5 win over
Jeremy Nolt (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia) at the No. 1 spot for its only point in singles play.
