Box Score
Messiah College showed why they are one of the top women's soccer teams in the country, as it took a 9-0 win over Wilkes University.
The Falcons held the Lady Colonels to just six total shots and five shots on goal, but provided plenty of offense of their own with 16 shots on goal. Rachel Horning, who scored three goals on the night, gave Messiah a 1-0 lead with a goal at the seven minute mark before Amanda Naeher made it 2-0 with a goal five minutes later.
Horning scored her second goal at the 26 minute mark before Joanna Hagg scored three minutes later. She would score again to make it 5-0 at the 38 minute mark. “We didn't show up today,” head coach
John Sumoski said. “We had a game plan which was to sit in and defend to take away the break-aways. We obviously didn't do the things we wanted to and they really took advantage of us on the sides.”
Wilkes (1-2) will return home this weekend to host the Colonel Classic featuring Marywood and Smith. The Lady Colonels will open with Marywood at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, followed by an 11 a.m. date with Smith on Sunday.
