Box Score

Taryn Hallowell (Belvidere, N.J./Belvidere) scored three goals and had one assist and Julissa Reed (Coal Township, Pa./Shamokin) had one goal and two assists to power the Wilkes University women's soccer team to a 4-1 win over Marywood on a rain-soaked Ralston Field on Saturday afternoon.

The win improves the Lady Colonels record to 2-2 overall on the season while the Pacers suffered their first loss on the year and see their record slide to 2-1-1.

“I thought the physical effort by our players has improved from previous games this season and that during the second half we showed signs of a young team playing better soccer than we have been,” head coach John Sumoski said.

Hallowell would open up the scoring at the 18:18 mark, taking a pass from Reed that she would bury in the bottom left corner of the net. The tandem would connect for a second goal only six minutes later as Hallowell took a nice through pass from Reed and was able to beat the Pacers' goalkeeper Meghan Coyle to make the score 2-0 going into halftime.

Marywood would finally get on the scoreboard at the 82:42 mark when Tayler Simmons struck a free kick from about 20 yards out that would deflect off the bottom of the crossbar and drop behind the outstretched arms of Wilkes' goalkeeper Jessica Berkey (Johnstown, Pa./Richland).

Hallowell would then complete her hat trick, answering the Pacers goal with her third of the match at the 84:40 mark when she calmly chipped the ball over Coyle as she came out to make a play on the ball.

Hallowell and Reed would connect one last time with only five seconds remaining on the clock as Reed finished a cross from Hallowell to seal the victory.

“I'm real happy for Taryn. This was a breakout game for her. She started playing how she is capable of playing.  Her and Julissa worked very well together,” stated Sumoski.

Berkey stopped seven shots in goal for the Lady Colonels while Coyle made eight saves of her own in goal for the Pacers.

Wilkes will return to action tomorrow as they play host to Smith College with a scheduled start of 11 a.m.
