The Wilkes University men's and women's tennis teams remained perfect this season as they both posted 9-0 sweeps over Susquehanna.
All singles matches were won in straight-sets and four were won 6-1, 6-0, three of which came on the women's side.
In the women's match, the Lady Colonels quickly went up 3-0 after sweeping the doubles competition. At the No. 3 spot, Michelle Knight (Roaming Shores, OH/Trinity) and Rebekah Shanaman (Richland, PA/ELCO) took an 8-1 win over Allie Killeen and Jessi Haas to go up 1-0 before Melanie Nolt (Manheim, PA/Manheim Central) and Katie Lynn (Berwick, PA/Berwick) won 8-1 over Julia Lerner and Ellen Pulsinelle at the No. 1 position. Xiaoqiao Zhang (Zhengzhou City, China/Warren Hills (N.J.)) and Alexis Donner (Belmar, NJ/Wall) completed the sweep, giving Wilkes a 3-0 lead with their 8-4 win over Abby Hess and Kim Rogers.
In singles play, Lynn made it 4-0 with her 6-1, 6-1 win over Abby Hess before Zhang clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Pulsinelle at the No. 3 spot. Nolt was nearly as good with her 6-2, 6-4 win at the No. 1 position over Lerner.
Donner would give Wilkes a 7-0 lead after taking down Whitney Arcaro 6-0, 6-1 and Knight would eventually make it 8-0 after her 6-1, 7-5 win over Dana Freshley at the No. 5 position. Playing at the No. 6 spot, Anna Mitchell (Montclair, NJ/Montclair) completed the sweep with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Cassie Zerbe.
In men's action, the Colonels improved to 2-0 on the year in impressive fashion. Like the women, the Wilkes men quickly swept through the doubles competition, not losing more than three games in any of the three matches.
At the No. 2 spot, Cesar Leon (Woodhaven, NY/Brooklyn Tech) and Clarke Freeman (York, PA/Central York) took an 8-1 win over Matt Quadrini and Michael Hickey. Jeremy Nolt (Bloomsburg/Central Columbia) and Chris Cozzillio (Harrisburg/Trinity) won their match 8-2 at the No. 1 position before Wes McCollum (Harrisburg/Central Dauphin) and Jon Rohrbach (Muncy/Muncy) made it 3-0 with their 8-3 2in over Alec Green and Will Mellor.
In singles action, McCollum made it 4-0 with his 6-1, 6-0 win over Richard Fitzsimmons before Nolt clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Hickey at the No. 2 spot. Leon, playing at No. 1 singles, won 6-2, 6-3 over Mats Haaland before Kevin Anyan (Easton/Easton ) took a 6-1, 7-5 win over Grant Uber at the No. 6 spot.
Freeman and Cozzillio would complete the sweep with straight-set wins at the No. 5 and 4 spots respectively.
