Box Score
On a cold, rainy Saturday afternoon the Wilkes University women's soccer team hosted Eastern in Freedom Conference play, and through the dreary conditions played to a 1-1 tie with the Eagles.
In the first half each team played excellent defense through the elements, and after 45 minutes of play the score remained tied 0-0.
In the second half Wilkes was the first to score when
Julissa Reed (Coal Township, Pa./Shamokin), who was honored before the game for senior day, found
Taryn Hallowell (Belvidere, NJ/Belvidere) in front of the Eagle goal for her fourth score of the year. Eastern answered twenty minutes later on a goal by Kelsey Doutrich, with the assist accredited to Bethany Engle. Each team would find opportunities to break the tie, but after regulation and two overtimes the score remained 1-1, the third tie of the season for the Lady Colonels.
Wilkes was able to get off 10 shots on the Eagles, but could only convert on one, while freshman goalkeeper
Brooke Keister (Penns Creek, Pa./Midd-West) saved four shots on the day.
With the tie Wilkes is now 4-7-3 (0-2-2) on the season, and will look for their first conference victory when they host cross-town rival King's College on Tuesday, Oct. 20 at Ralston Field. That game will begin at 4:00 p.m.
