The Wilkes University women's soccer team hosted cross-town rival King's College on Tuesday, defeating the Monarchs by a score of 5-0 to grab their first Freedom Conference victory.
It didn't take long for the Lady Colonels to find the back of the net, as in the seventh minute
Taryn Hallowell (Belvidere, NJ/Belvidere) found
Julissa Reed (Coal Township, Pa./Shamokin) for the game's first score. Reed would add another score 13 minutes later on a pass from
Katy Fissel (Madison, NJ/Madison). Five minutes after Reed's sixth goal of the season,
Megan Clementson (Frederick, MD/Tuscarora) scored her third goal of the year to put Wilkes up 3-0 going into the break.
In the second period Wilkes didn't let up on the pressure, as two minutes into the half
Katy Fissel (Madison, NJ/Madison) scored on a pass from
Brooke Edwards (Levittown, PA/Harry S. Truman).
Jenna Sargent (Stroudsburg/Pocono Mountain East) would add on one more in the 59th minute to give Wilkes five scores on the day, the most they've scored this year.
Wilkes fired 19 shots in the game, and held the Monarchs to only five shot, none of which were on goal.
With the victory the Lady Colonels improve to 5-7-3 on the season, and 1-2-2 in conference play. Their next match-up will be against Delaware Valley in Doylestown, Pa. on Saturday, Oct. 24. That game will begin at 12:00 p.m.
