Box Score

The Wilkes University women's soccer team traveled to Cortland, N.Y. to take on the Red Dragons, and after surrendering two first-half goals fell to SUNY Cortland 2-1.

In the first period limited shots were taken, but the Red Dragons made theirs count, as in the 28th minute Bridgette DeSantis took a deep shot that passed over Wilkes goalkeeper Brooke Keister (Penns Creek, Pa./Midd-West) to put Cortland up 1-0. Eight minutes later Jenn Fox would fire from the right side of the box to score Cortland's second goal of the game, making the score 2-0 at halftime.

In the second period Wilkes would score in the 81st minute on a goal by Erin Donnelly (Parkesburg, PA/Octorara) off a pass from Katy Fissel (Madison, NJ/Madison), but were unable to score again, ultimately falling 2-1.

Cortland fired 10 shots in the contest, while the Lady Colonels got off nine shots of their own. Goalkeeping was shared by Keister and Sarah Shetler (Pequea, Pa./Penn Manor) who combined for three saves and two goals against.

With the loss Wilkes falls to 6-8-3, and will look to continue their stellar Freedom Conference play when they head to Center Valley, Pa. to take on DeSales. That game is on Saturday, Oct. 31 at 12:00 p.m.
