Box Score
The Wilkes University women's soccer team competed in their first conference match of the season against FDU-Florham on Saturday, with the game ending in a tie after double overtime, 2-2.
It didn't take long for either team to score, as 19 minutes into the game there were already three goals. In the 3rd minute the Devils' Lora Fink scored on a shot from the left side to put FDU-Florham up 1-0. That lead would not last long, as six minutes later
Jenna Sargent (Stroudsburg/Pocono Mountain East) scored on a pass from
Taryn Hallowell (Belvidere, NJ/Belvidere) to tie up the contest. In the 18th minute
Katy Fissel (Madison, NJ/Madison) scored her first goal of the season off an
Ashley Graham (New Hampton, NY/Minisink Valley) direct kick that was deflected by Hallowell, making the score 2-1 heading into the half.
In the second half FDU would answer on another goal by Lora Fink off a direct kick in the 60th minute to once again tie up the score. Wilkes put pressure on the Devil defense, shooting three shots on goal, but at the end of regulation the score would remain tied, 2-2.
In both overtimes Wilkes out-shot FDU, but could never find the back of the nets as the game ended in a tie, the second in a row for the Lady Colonels.
Wilkes rattled off 16 shots in the contest, seven of which were on goal. Goalie
Brooke Keister (Penns Creek, Pa./Midd-West) had three saves for Wilkes, including a diving penalty kick save in the first half.
With the tie Wilkes is now 4-4-2 on the year, and their next game will be played in Union, N.J. against Kean on Wednesday, Oct. 7. That game will begin at 7:30 p.m.
