Lindsay Behrenshausen (Mt. Holly Springs/Boiling Springs) threw a four-hit shutout with six strikeouts in the first game to help the Lady Colonels garner a split with DeSales in Freedom Conference Softball action. Wilkes won the first game 3-0 before falling in the second 7-1.

In the first game, seven of the 10 Lady Colonel batters picked up a hit as Wilkes sprayed 10 hits, two of which were for extra bases. MeLisa Bracone (Farmingville, N.Y./Sachem East) went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI and was one of three players to pick up two hits in the game. Keelia Mailander (Allentown, Pa./Dieruff) had a pair of hits as well and drove in a run, while Gina Stefanelli (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Meyers) was 2-for-2.

The Lady Colonels were able to break a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI single by Amanda Holston (Georgetown, Del./Sussex Central), but left the bases loaded in the frame. Holston's single drove in Erin Plank (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East), who led off the inning with a walk.

Wilkes would tack on two more in the fifth off four hits, including RBI singles by Bracone and Mailander. Stefanelli led off the inning with a double and would later score on Bracone's hit.

In the second game, a four-run third inning was enough for DeSales starter Katie Morrissey, who gave up one run off five hits in the win. The Lady Colonels committed three errors in the game that resulted into two unearned runs for starter Maureen Pelot (Kirkville, N.Y./Chittenango).

The Lady Colonels were able to answer with a run in the bottom of the third, but like the first game, were not able to do more damage with the bases loaded.

The Bulldogs would eventually add two more in the fifth and one in the sixth to garner the split.

Wilkes is now 6-8 overall and 1-1 in Freedom Conference play, but it doesn't have time to rest as the Lady Colonels will host Delaware Valley in a double header tomorrow at 1 p.m.
