The Lady Colonels left runners in scoring position in five of the seven innings of the first game while Bethany Pavlik hit a grand slam in the second to lift Delaware Valley to a sweep in Freedom Conference softball action. The Aggies won the first game 4-2 before winning the second 4-1.

Wilkes left nine runners on base in the first game as it out-hit the Aggies 10-9. Delaware Valley finished with nine hits and used a three-run third to propel it to victory. The Aggies got on the board first when Becky Furman singled to left field before scoring on a single by Pavlik and a Lady Colonel on the play.

The Lady Colonels would answer with two runs in the bottom of the first on three hits, including a two-run single by MeLisa Bracone (Farmingville, N.Y./Sachem East) scoring Kathy Dalton (Neptune, N.J./St. Rose) and Amanda Holston (Georgetown, Del./Sussex Central). Holston led off the inning with a double to right center before Dalton singled up the middle. Both Holston and Dalton finished the game with three hits and a run scored, while Bracone was 1-for-4 with two runs batted in.

The Aggies exploded for three runs in the third off four singles. Krystal Diaz led off the frame with a walk before three-straight singles by Pavlik, Erin Fox and Kasey Martini to take the lead for good. Lacy Miles capped off the inning with a two-run single up the middle to score Martini and Fox.

Wilkes would threaten in the bottom of the fifth as Holston and Dalton led off the inning with back-to-back singles, but a fielder's choice by Gina Stefanelli (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Meyers) would retire Holston at third. A groundout would advance Dalton to third and Stefanelli to second, but a fly out to right field retired the side.

The second game was much like the first as the Lady Colonels left 11 runners stranded including the bases loaded on two different occasions.

Both teams threatened in the second inning with the Aggies leaving two runners stranded before the Lady Colonels left the bases jammed in the bottom of the frame. Wilkes would threaten in the sixth when a fielder's choice and a walk, as well as a single by Stefanelli loaded the bases before Holston ended the inning with a hard lineout to right field.

In the seventh, Delaware Valley's Robyn Jackson reached with a one-out single before Miles doubled to right field. After a walk to Krystal Diaz, Pavlik would hit a 1-1 pitch over the center field fence for a grand slam.

In their final at bat, the Lady Colonels were able to answer with one run – an RBI double by Keelia Mailander (Allentown, Pa./Dieruff), plating Bracone, but it would be the only run they would score in the inning.

Wilkes fell to 6-10 on the year and 1-3 in Freedom Conference play. Delaware Valley improved to 6-4 overall and 2-0 in league games. The Lady Colonels will return to action Wednesday when they hit the road to take on Scranton in a double header.
