The Wilkes University men's tennis team improved to 5-0 on the year and won its Freedom Conference opener 9-0 over FDU-Florham.

The Colonels took a quick 3-0 lead after winning all three doubles matches with Jeremy Nolt (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia) and Evan Katz (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) taking an 8-0 win over Nik Sharma and Kevin Ly at the No. 2 spot. Wes McCollum (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) and John Rohrbach quickly made it 2-0 with an 8-2 win over Wes Harnett and Andrew Scamporino at the No. 3 position. Chris Cozzillio (Harrisburg, Pa./Trinity) and Kyle Ungvarsky (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) made it a sweep at the No. 1 spot with a 9-7 victory over Adam Geiger and Joe Li.

In singles play, the Colonels were never threatened as they did not lose more than four games in any of the matches. Rohrbach made it 4-0 with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Scamporino before McCollum made quick work of Harnett, winning 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 3 spot. Ungvarsky, playing No. 5 singles, also won 6-0, 6-0 over Ly to extend Wilkes' lead to 6-0.

Cozzillio continued the winning ways for Wilkes, taking a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Sharma at the No. 4 spot before Katz and Nolt won their matches 6-4, 6-2.
