Improve to 6-0 overall and 3-0 in Freedom Conference play

ST. DAVIDS – The Wilkes University men's tennis team remained perfect this season by taking an 8-1 win over Eastern University. The Colonels breezed through singles play, winning all matches in straight sets and dropped just one double match in the victory.

In doubles play, Jeremy Nolt (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia) and Evan Katz (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) gave Wilkes a 1-0 advantage after taking an 8-1 win over Taylor Kiser and Sean McGuiness at the No. 2 spot. Chris Cozzillio (Harrisburg, Pa./Trinity) and Kyle Ungvarsky (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) quickly made it 2-0 as they teamed to take down Jordan Gates and Bryan Arnett 8-3 at the No. 1 spot. The Eagles would score their only point of the match as the tandem of Dan Wilson and Josh Hall took an 8-2 win over Jefferson Bohan (Danville, Pa./Danville) and Jose Colon (Dorado, Puerto Rico/Dorado New Testament Christian Academy), who teamed for the first time this season.

In singles action, Ungvarsky made it 3-1 in favor of the Colonels with his 6-0, 6-0 win over Wilson at the No. 4 position. Cozzillio was nearly as impressive at the No. 3 spot as he took a 6-1, 6-0 win over Kiser, giving Wilkes a commanding 4-1 lead.

Katz would clinch the match at the No. 2 position with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Arnett, while Nolt, playing at the No. 1 spot took three sets to beat Gates, 6-4, 2-6, 10-4.

Bohon and Colon, playing in their first dual matches for the Colonels, both won in straight sets with Bohon taking down McGuiness 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5, while Colon defeated Hall 6-4, 6-3.

The Colonels improved to 6-0 overall and 3-0 in Freedom Conference play and they will return to action Wednesday when they host Alvernia at 3:30 p.m.
